~Chapter 2- Watch Me Shine~

Disclaimer: You know the drill...

Jadeite walked through the camp. She needed to get to the plain of sorrows, and to get there, she needed to go through the tent. She was getting nervous. The people were throwing her plaintative glances. Some were of surprise, some were of hatred, some were of puzzlement and some of them were of... fear.
Maybe I shouldn’t have come out here without Kou. She mused. No, he’s already troubled enough. Besides, I should befriend the villagers, but I’ll let them calm down first.
Jadeite sighed and quickened her pace. Soon, she was out of the camp and away from the uncomfortable looks of the villagers. Before her, lay empty grassland covered by short, dry grass. Hinoto chose well, the plain of sorrows was a perfect place to practice her sword techniques.
Alright, I guess my normal technique is fine. I just need to go through father’s technique, Frozen Dragon.
Jadeite paused. ‘Frozen Dragon’ was her father’s technique, not hers. She needed to go through it as she sensed that the fight with Syaoran would be long even if she used her best moves in the beginning. She needed more moves to back her up. (Just to tell you first, Jadeite’s technique is “Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light”, Kou’s is “Dark Shadows, Phoenix of Darkness” and Syaoran’s is “Lone Wolf”)
Jadeite began her training. She pulled out her sword and concentrated.
“Frozen Dragon- Dragon Claw!” Jadeite shouted as ran towards a boulder. She stopped and slashed down 5 meters away from the boulder. The boulder shook and split into two.
Not too bad, considering it’s been five years since I used it. And that was only to please father... Jadeite closed her eyes as she felt memories flowing back.

~ (Flashback) ~
“Strike harder! Move faster! You can do it!” a man in his thirties ordered to a 9 year old girl dressed in a training gi.
The girl struck hard at the metal block, but there was hardly a dent created on the seemingly indestructible metal block. The girl collapsed on the floor in exhaustion.
“Get up!” the man ordered, harshly.
“But, father, I’m tired.” the girl protested.
“Stand up now!” the man insisted.
The girl tried to get up, using the sword, which was at least her size, as a support. She stumbled to get up, but lost strength and collapsed back to the floor.
“You’ll never be a great warrior like me! Why did I agree to train you!” the man pulled his hair in exasperation.
The girl struggled to her feet again. She lifted the sword up again, much to the man’s surprise. Then, a faint pink aura surrounded the girl as she concentrated. The aura grew stronger and stronger. Then she took a few steps back. She took a deep breath in and shouted, “Frozen Dragon- Dragon’s Claw!”. She charged towards the metal block and slashed down about 20 inches away from the block. The block seemed to shudder, then a big chuck of it slid down and crashed onto the floor.
The man gasped. His daughter had done better then he expected. Suddenly, the sword in the girl’s grasp fell with a clang. The girl swayed. The man dashed and caught the girl just in time.
“Father, I did it.” the girl said in a hoarse voice. She then drifted off to sleep.
“Yes, you did. My dear Jadeite, my daughter.” the man whispered, tears rolling down his cheeks.

~ (End of Flashback) ~

The girl shook out the memories and started to practice.
My skills must be in tip top condition before midday, I have no time for these memories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was half an hour before midday when Jadeite returned for the plain of sorrows.
“You’re back. I hope you didn’t overexert yourself.” Kou asked worriedly.
“Don’t worry. I didn’t. Besides, I only revised my father’s technique. It doesn’t take as much energy.” Jadeite smiled.
Kou looked unconvinced but decided to let the matter drop.
Jadeite grinned and made her way to a private hot spring to bathe. The hot spring was covered by rich colored fabrics. They were different type of perfumes layout on a sliver tray. Jadeite took a quick dip with a bit of white rose perfume, before changing into her battle outfit. It was the same one which she wore when she fought in the battle of the free shadows. Only this time, she wore her hair in a long ponytail, fastened by a hair tie made of a bendable type of sliver and gold mix. There was also a silver headdress adorned by a crystal 8-pointed star. That was a gift from the survivors of the war. It was said to be the first Empress’s headdress and would give good luck to the wearer.
Jadeite exited the hot spring and went into the tent. Kou was already inside, dressed up also in his battle clothes, it was the same as the one in the battle of free shadows, but he wore a new jacket. It was black and slightly longer.
“Are you ready?” he asked.
“As ready as ever.” Jadeite nodded.
Jadeite grabbed her sword and unsheathed it, checking it.
“My sword seems fine.” she confirmed.
“Then let’s go.” Kou held Jadeite’s and led her out of the tent and to the battle ground.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Battle Ground)
The battle ground was a large piece of barren land. It was just hard-baked earth. No Sand, no plants, there wasn’t anything growing in it. The perfect place for a duel to take place.
Many of the people stood at the battle ground. They were curious on how this girl from the Empire was going to beat one of the top Sword Masters in duel. Some mean ones commented on how they came here to see her humiliating defeat.
Jadeite ignored them and concentrated on her breathing, as well as on Syaoran, who was standing on the other side of the field.
His aura is strong. This won’t be easy. Jadeite wrinkled her forehead in thought. Suddenly Syaoran turned around and glared at her. She just stared back. Two can play a game. Syaoran was surprised. No one could ever stand his glares. Not even Kou. Yet, this girl...
“Welcome everyone!” Hinoto came out from a tent, her head was now covered by a veil, “this duel will decide the fate of this girl. If she can beat Sword Master Syaoran, she will be eligible to stay; of course, she needs to get the approval from every single one of you in 2 months. If she fails, she will leave.”
This earned murmurs from across the crowd. The noise grew increasingly louder.
“Silence!” Hinoto boomed.
The crowd quieted down.
“So now, let the match between Sword Master Syaoran Ryuren-Yelan and Jadeite Kamui-Jewel begin!” Hinoto declared.
Jadeite and Syaoran walked into the middle of the ground and faced each other.
“Prepare to be beaten, girl.” Syaoran snarled.
“What did you say? How do you know I’ll be beaten.” Jadeite asked icily.
“You’re just a girl. I doubt you’ll even last through my second strike.” Syaoran snorted.
“Really?” Jadeite asked, her voice edged by frostiness.
“Of course. You will never beat me.” Syaoran narrowed his eyes.
“Really? Watch me.” Jadeite turned around, and stalked off.
Syaoran stood confounded, was this the same girl who pleaded for a way to make him accept her? It didn’t seem like it. This girl was edged with frostiness.
The signal was given out for them to start. Jadeite drew out her sword, the phoenix sword of Light. Syaoran drew out his blade. He was using the Li Clan Sword.
Jadeite wasted no time. “Frozen Dragon- Arise!” she charged with all her might at slashed down at Syaoran.
Syaoran blocked with his sword and tried to shove it off. But he found that Jadeite’s sword would swallow any impact of movement.
“Lone Wolf- the Moon arises!” Syaoran growled and a blast of power blew Jadeite back.
Jadeite recovered immediately and delivered a ‘Frozen Dragon- the Strength Within”. Only to be blocked by a ‘Lone Wolf- Wolf Fang.”
Man, she’s strong. Though I’m stronger. I’m not even at my best strokes yet, but she’s already nearing the end of her tactics. But to be able to last this long, she’s kind of good. Syaoran thought as he received vicious blow after blow.
After a series of blows, Jadeite took a few paces back and prepared for the final blow. Syaoran stood firm, tensing.
“Frozen Dragon- Dragon Claw!” Jadeite ran and slashed a few meters away from Syaoran.
“Lone Wolf- Hunter of the Night!” Syaoran delivered a forceful slash.
Both attacks collided with each other and exploded. The force of the impact blow both Syaoran and Jadeite back.
This is my chance. Syaoran grinned and ran towards Jadeite.
“Lone Wolf- Wolf Strike!” Syaoran swung the sword down.
“Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light- Arise of the Phoenix!” a blow parried with his sword and drove him back.
Syaoran’s eyes widened in shock. Shit! The earlier technique wasn’t hers! I’ve been fooled! “Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light- Flight!” Jadeite slashed down at Syaoran with inhuman speed.
Syaoran barely managed to dodge the first blow. He parried the next few blows with his sword, barely. Finally, Jadeite managed to slash him in the torso as well as his arm.
Syaoran growled and charged at Jadeite, “Lone Wolf- Wolf’s Paw!”.
He slashed down had on Jadeite. Jadeite blocked with her sword, but she was blown back my the force onto her side. Syaoran then took a few steps back.
“Lone Wolf- Wolf Slash!” Syaoran struck down, his sword aiming for Jadeite’s heart.
The crowd anticipated. This fight surprised them, the girl had lasted longer than they expected. Even Hinoto looked surprised; the girl’s looks had certainly deceived them. But she was going down now. Kou tensed and prayed, hard.
Syaoran’s sword was aiming nearer and nearer to Jadeite’s heart. Suddenly, she raised her sword.
“Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light- Wings as Protection!” Jadeite screamed.
Syaoran’s sword was met with Jadeite’s sword. He was blown back by a strong force radiating from the sword. He steadied himself.
Jadeite quickly got up and chanted, “Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light- Man and Sword as One!”
Jadeite began slashing her sword down at Syaoran, as well as kicking and swiping at him, all with super-human speed.
Syaoran got badly beaten up by Jadeite. Finally, Jadeite delivered her final blow.
“Angel Wings, Phoenix of Light- Heaven’s Judgment!” Jadeite growled and slashed the air.
A visible wave of energy hit Syaoran. He collapsed on the ground. He struggled to sit up, only to be restricted by Jadeite’s sword, pointed at his chest.
“I win.” Jadeite whispered and removed the sword.
Syaoran turned an angry scarlet. He couldn’t believe it; he was beaten by a girl.
Jadeite sheathed her sword and walked away, her back facing Syaoran.
Syaoran, blinded by anger, drew his sword and swung it at Jadeite.
“Jadeite, watch out!” Kou screamed.
Jadeite swerved around in time, unfortunately, she was slashed on her arm. Ruby red blood dripped down her arm.
“Lone Wolf- Night Hunt!” Syaoran attacked again.
Jadeite was slashed again. Syaoran vent his anger down on her with no mercy.
Jadeite sprawled weakly on the floor.
Syaoran took a step back and prepared to deliver a final blow, a blow to finish the meddling girl off.
“Lone Wolf- Dark Night!” Syaoran charged.
Jadeite saw her life flash before her eyes. She raised her hands in a useless attempt to defend herself.
“Jadeite!!!” Kou screamed and started running towards them.
Syaoran’s sword came down on Jadeite...
(Should I leave it here? Haha! Nah, I had enough of cliffhangers.)
A flash of blinding light shot out of Jadeite’s hands. It wasn’t just any light. The light threw Syaoran back a few meters and injured him badly.
What the? That was raw power! She’s a... Syaoran recoiled fright and ran as well as he could into the endless land of sand.
Jadeite collapsed on the floor. Kou ran over and cradled her in his arms.
“Wh...at hap...pened?” Jadeite whispered.
“Hush. Sleep.” Kou murmured.
Around them, the crowd gasped. The girl had shown such strong raw power, such a strong aura. She was the...
“Ahem! Guards! Quick! Bring Jadeite to the physician!” Hinoto interrupted.
Several guard complied. Kou carried Jadeite and followed them to the physician’s tent.
He tried to ignore the comments traveling from the crowd. Most of them of fear.
Kou couldn’t help but be a bit fearful from the show of power Jadeite gave.
Jadeite, what did you do? What are you?

Author’s notes: Yah! Chapter 2 up! This chapter was one of the hardest to write! I’m not good at describing fights and I had a tough time coming up with the names of the attacks. Phew! Well, enjoy! Chapter 3 should be coming up in a few days.

Muse Torture and Rants-
Author: This wasn’t really good. Man the phrases were really cliché man.
Jadeite: You had me slashed in this chapter.
Syaoran: And I was defeated by a girl!
Kou: That was surprising. Such a twist at the end.
Jadeite: The ending really got me there.
Kou: But it was really annoying when you cut of the sentence when Syaoran and the villagers tried to say what Jadeite was.
Author: That was part of the story.
Syaoran: When’s Sakura coming out?
Author: In due time my dear, soon. I think either at the end of Chapter 3 or in the middle of chapter 4.
Syaoran: All right, but you better.
Kou: Please review via e-mail to cute_little_ichigo@hotmail.com. Remember to label the e-mail as ‘Comments for Angel Wings-“Name of story”, Chapter wadeva’!
